Eric Schmidt reportedly owns about half as much of Anthropic as CEO Dario Amodei
techcrunch ·
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is reported to hold approximately 1% of Anthropic, a stake roughly half the size of that owned by CEO Dario Amodei. This ownership position stems from Schmidt's investment of tens of millions of dollars during the company's Series A round in 2021, when Anthropic was valued at $461 million. Bloomberg estimates suggest this share could add up to $20 billion to Schmidt’s net worth if the company goes public with a valuation reaching $2 trillion. Anthropic is widely anticipated to launch an initial public offering before the end of the year. Schmidt has remained an active investor since leaving his role at Google in 2011, deploying capital through various entities such as Tomorrow Ventures and Hillspire. His portfolio includes other significant AI investments like Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI. Neither Schmidt nor Anthropic immediately responded to requests for comment regarding these financial details.
