Even Americans who use AI every day are worried about it

A new Gallup survey commissioned by Microsoft reveals that despite widespread daily use of artificial intelligence, a significant majority of Americans remain anxious about its implications. Approximately 68% of U.S. residents who utilize AI every day report feeling worried, placing the United States at the high end of global anxiety levels compared to other nations. This finding challenges the assumption that increased adoption automatically translates to public enthusiasm or comfort with the technology. While Western countries like the U.S. and Canada show high concern, regions such as Singapore, China, and Israel exhibit greater optimism regarding AI's potential to improve lives. However, even in these optimistic markets, trust in the accuracy of AI-generated information remains limited, particularly among less frequent users. The study highlights that attitudes toward AI are multidimensional, allowing individuals to be curious and hopeful while simultaneously harboring fears about safety and job displacement. Although positive sentiments outweigh negative ones globally, the data suggests that mere exposure to the technology does not resolve underlying unease. Consequently, the proliferation of AI continues amidst ongoing debates about regulation, safety, and its societal impact.
