Everything New You Can Do With Siri AI

Apple's Siri, which debuted on the iPhone in 2011 ahead of Google Assistant and ChatGPT, has been overtaken by generative AI rivals, and iOS 27 is Apple's answer: a revamped assistant named Siri AI with a range of new capabilities. The features require an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max or later, including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, because only those phones have the on-board silicon needed for the higher AI processing demands. Siri AI indexes content stored on the device—texts, emails, calendars, photos, and videos—without sending anything back to Apple, allowing natural questions about conversations, appointments, and images. It can also see what is on your screen, so users can ask it to summarize text in Safari, identify a landmark, explain Settings options, or, through a Siri mode in the Camera app, get information about something in view such as a menu item's nutritional details. Text writing and editing no longer rely on an integrated ChatGPT plug-in, and users can ask Siri AI to adjust tone, expand or shorten text, or turn notes into full paragraphs while retaining final approval and the ability to move between revisions. Siri AI can take more actions inside apps, such as creating calendar events or switching playlists, and may suggest actions like making a calendar event from a texted date and time. For the first time, Siri has its own app for conversation history that syncs queries across Apple devices, and it offers what Apple calls broad world knowledge for standalone queries. Finally, on the most powerful devices—the 2026 iPhones, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air—users can adjust the tone, speed, and expressivity of spoken responses and switch voices via Settings.
