FedEx and Dexterity Expand Physical AI Deployment for Autonomous Trailer Loading at Hagerstown Hub
aiinsider ·
FedEx and Dexterity are expanding their deployment of Dexterity’s Foresight world model and Mech trailer-loading robots at FedEx’s Hagerstown Hub in Maryland. The initiative moves beyond an earlier pilot and will assess the technology at a larger operational scale, with emphasis on safety, consistency, and performance. The companies will also examine how physical AI integrates with destination planning, trailer assignment, maintenance, and workforce processes. Mech is a compact, dual-armed robot designed for heavy industrial work inside trailers, while Foresight combines vision, depth, and touch to make real-time decisions. The system is intended to optimize package placement for space, stability, and speed while adapting to changing operating conditions. FedEx and Dexterity described the program as a step toward applying autonomous systems to trailer loading, a physically demanding process that has historically been difficult to automate and is performed across tens of thousands of trailers daily in FedEx’s U.S. network.
