FireDome Launches US Operations With California Wildfire Defense Test Site
aiinsider ·
Israeli startup FireDome has officially launched its U.S. operations by establishing a demonstration site at Yuba County Airport in California. The facility serves as a testing ground for an autonomous wildfire defense system designed to detect and suppress fires before they spread. This technology utilizes stationary launchers to fire retardant-filled capsules up to 1,000 feet, creating firebreaks and protecting assets without relying on local water or power sources. Each installation is engineered to cover approximately 70 acres, providing an additional layer of security for communities during high-risk conditions. Co-founder and CEO Gadi Benjamini emphasized that the system acts as a force multiplier for emergency crews by offering early detection and autonomous response capabilities. Founded in 2024, the company plans to initially target high-risk areas in California while collaborating with various stakeholders including insurers and fire-service organizations. FireDome expects to begin its first customer installations in 2027 after refining the technology through this real-world test environment.
