Flock Has a Powerful New AI Tool for Police. We Got Its Code
wired ·
WIRED obtained code from Flock Safety's website revealing a new AI tool for police, called OS Investigate, that can identify drivers and track vehicles by movement patterns, going beyond mere license plate reading. The system draws on a network of cameras in over 6,000 communities, plus police records, dispatch logs, and commercial databases, to turn plates into names, addresses, and associates. The code includes 69 prewritten prompts and 45 tools, allowing officers to search for witnesses, suspects, or patterns without a specific crime or plate. Privacy and legal experts say the tool raises serious constitutional concerns by enabling broad, warrantless surveillance. Flock says the product is still in development and being tested with a small group of partners. The article also notes that Flock had previously claimed its technology cannot recognize or track individuals, which this tool contradicts.
