Flock reportedly tries to shrink workforce with employee buyouts
techcrunch ·
Flock Safety, an embattled surveillance technology company, has reportedly offered a “generous” severance package to employees who voluntarily leave, according to Wired. The company expects a significant share of its roughly 1,500 employees to seek the buyouts and says it will approve them for most interested workers. Flock described the packages internally as the most generous it has offered. The voluntary departures could help the company avoid layoffs while allowing demoralized employees to leave amid backlash over its license plate recognition technology. The Washington Post reported 46 cases in which officers were accused of misusing Flock technology, while Florida and Texas said they would stop using it and an advocacy group said 90 cities dropped the technology in August. Flock CEO Garrett Langley has said the backlash’s biggest internal effect has been on morale, and TechCrunch said it contacted the company for comment.
