Following OpenAI, Anthropic is also reportedly postponing its IPO

Anthropic is reportedly delaying its planned IPO from October to late October at the earliest, and more likely November 2026, with advisers saying it wants to present strong third-quarter results first. Investors reportedly expect a valuation of roughly $2 trillion and a capital raise of up to $100 billion, potentially surpassing records set by SpaceX’s June IPO. Anthropic’s revenue more than doubled between the first and second quarters of 2026, while spending by business customers grew sharply, but the company still needs funding because data-center and model-training costs are substantial. Its delay may also reflect competition from OpenAI, rising interest rates, cheaper open-weight models, and cybersecurity risks exposed by unintended hacks during safety testing. Anthropic’s claim of profitability excludes major costs such as stock-based compensation and does not follow standard accounting rules. OpenAI has also postponed its IPO to 2027, while the broader question remains whether AI investments will generate enough measurable revenue or savings to justify their expense.
