Former Meta AI Director Rohit Patel Leaves to Build AI-Native Rival to Office and Workspace
aiinsider ·
Rohit Patel, a former director at Meta Superintelligence Labs, is departing the company after eight years to establish Ndoc, an AI-native workspace startup. The new platform aims to compete directly with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace by integrating three distinct tabs: Stage for visual content, Narrative for analysis, and Model for data and scripts. Patel emphasizes that users can verify AI-generated work and request explanations for underlying formulas or Python code. He plans to open-source a portable .ndoc.html file format to accelerate development without corporate consensus. Unlike competitors who merely add AI features to existing spreadsheet structures, Ndoc is built from the ground up using fine-tuned open-source models to reduce operational costs. Currently operating with a small team of three and no external funding, the startup is conducting enterprise pilots and limited alpha tests. A beta version is expected within weeks, with a full public release scheduled for next year.
