Former TikTok execs built an app that uses AI to teach you how to pose for a photo

Former TikTok employees Melody Chu and Jing Liu have launched Superpose, a new iOS application that utilizes artificial intelligence to help users improve their photography posing. The app functions as a camera tool where users can take selfies or photos of friends, after which the AI generates four potential pose suggestions for them to emulate. Chu developed the concept to solve a personal issue regarding her husband's inability to capture good photos of her, leveraging advancements in computer vision and generative AI. Since its launch in July, Superpose has been downloaded over 22,000 times, with users generating more than 190,000 poses. The business model offers five free daily generations, while additional packs are available for purchase at $2.99 for five or $9.99 for twenty. Although the startup has raised $2.2 million from investors including Khosla Ventures and Meitu, it aims to distinguish itself by focusing on real-life portrait capture rather than creating fantastical AI backgrounds. The founders acknowledge that some generated poses may appear uncanny and are actively working on improving generation styles and user coaching features.
