France’s transport ministry has outlined a roadmap for autonomous vehicle approval, aiming to publish a homologation doctrine in the first half of 2027. This announcement was made at the Assises du véhicule autonome, where officials emphasized goals such as improving road safety and strengthening European technology sovereignty. The government plans to implement step-by-step validation and ongoing safety monitoring to assist manufacturers in meeting operational requirements. Several major industry players have announced pilot programs aligned with this regulatory timeline. Stellantis is collaborating with Wayve and Nvidia to deploy L4-ready autonomous platforms across France and the EU. Additionally, Métropole du Grand Paris has proposed a living lab with Bolt and Stellantis, targeting service expansion by 2030. The city of Clichy has also submitted an application for electric robotaxis with G7 and Milla, pending European Commission selection. Meanwhile, Île-de-France Mobilités plans to launch its first public autonomous transit pilot in early 2028.
