Goldman Sachs pulls AI coding tools from traders and bankers
decoder ·
Goldman Sachs has restricted access to advanced AI coding tools, such as Anthropic's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub, limiting their use exclusively to engineers. This decision reverses earlier initiatives that allowed traders and bankers to utilize these technologies for monitoring trading flows and creating content prototypes. The rollback has reportedly generated frustration among non-technical staff who had been experimenting with the software since July. Previously, CIO Marco Argenti supported a workflow where non-engineers would build quick AI prototypes before handing them off to developers for production scaling. According to Bloomberg, internal guidelines from October formalized this change, citing factors related to productivity and risk management. A firm spokesperson stated that the initial experimentation phase is complete and tools are now reserved for those best suited for long-term leverage. Consequently, the strategy of empowering non-technical employees to engage in 'vibe coding' appears to have been abandoned.
