Google Expands AI Story App Dreambeans to India, Its First Market Outside the U.S.

Google has expanded its experimental AI story application, Dreambeans, to India, marking the app's first international launch outside the United States. The expansion includes support for 13 local languages, such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali, alongside English. This move follows the app's recent release to eligible U.S. adults less than two months ago. Dreambeans utilizes connected Google services like Gmail, Photos, and Gemini to automatically generate illustrated stories about users' lives without requiring specific prompts. Product manager Gozde Oznur selected India due to strong user interest and high overlap among key Google services in the region. However, adoption has been modest, with Sensor Tower reporting nearly 55,000 downloads in the U.S. since June and a significant drop in October. Privacy concerns remain a factor, though Google emphasizes that users control which data is connected and can delete it at any time.
