Google Expands Gemini’s Agentic Reach With AI Calling and a Virtual Closet in Google Photos
aiinsider ·
Google is expanding the capabilities of its Gemini assistant with two new features designed to integrate more deeply into daily user routines. The first feature, Call for Me, allows Gemini to place phone calls on behalf of users, enabling tasks such as checking product stock, booking restaurants, and rescheduling appointments. Currently available as an experiment for U.S. Pixel 11 owners with a Gemini subscription, the tool uses the user's own number and can navigate automated menus while providing a live transcript. Google emphasizes that it is starting small due to the nuanced nature of real-world conversations, competing with similar calling abilities from rivals like Meta. Simultaneously, Google Photos has launched an AI-powered virtual closet for iOS and Android users in the U.S., Brazil, and India. This digital wardrobe analyzes photos to categorize clothing items, allowing users to mix and match outfits without sharing data with third-party retailers. Additional updates to Google Photos include new image editing tools, AI Remix templates, and Moods filters for Android devices. These launches highlight Google's strategy to make AI agents more proactive and personalized in consumer applications.
