Google packs Search and Gemini with new AI study tools
techcrunch ·
Google announced new AI study tools for students across Search and Gemini on Wednesday, including interactive visuals, 3D simulations, practice quizzes, and a dedicated student hub. In Search, students can generate interactive visuals for topics like pH scales and ask follow-up questions to create tailored simulations and experiences. Users can also get customized practice quizzes on any subject, and a coming Lens feature will help students work through problems by uploading photos for AI explanations. Additionally, students can upload files such as PDFs, slides, or handwritten notes to have Search create study documents. In Gemini, users can launch multi-step research reports in Gemini Live and discuss findings conversationally while the research runs in the background. Gemini can also generate functional 3D simulations, such as an interactive DNA structure, and a new hub in the app brings together study notebooks, flashcards, and quizzes. These efforts position Google to compete with OpenAI and education startups offering similar learning tools.
