Google’s answer to Canva is an AI tool where you prompt instead of design
techcrunch ·
Google is launching a new AI-powered image creation and editing tool called Google Pics, which will be integrated into Google Workspace for business customers and premium Google AI subscribers. The tool, powered by Google's Nano Banana image-generation model, will roll out to most Workspace users and Google AI Pro or Ultra subscribers over the coming weeks. Like Canva and Adobe Express, Google Pics is designed for everyday design tasks such as creating posters, social media posts, and other visuals. However, unlike Canva, it does not feature a marketplace for artists to sell their work, and unlike Adobe Express, users create content by prompting rather than designing from scratch. The app includes editing features like isolating objects, modifying or translating text in images, collaborative editing, and generating multiple image versions to choose from. Google Pics will initially be built into Docs and Slides starting today, with Google Drive integration planned for later.
