Google's "Call for Me" lets Gemini phone businesses for you
decoder ·
Google is currently testing a new feature called "Call for Me," which allows its Gemini AI to make phone calls on behalf of users. This functionality is initially available only to Pixel 11 owners in the United States who have a paid Gemini subscription and are using the beta version of the Google Phone app. The AI can handle various tasks such as making reservations, rescheduling appointments, or checking product availability by passing along user-approved personal information. It navigates through phone menus, waits on hold, and initiates calls from the user's own number to maintain authenticity. Users can monitor the interaction in real-time via a live transcript and take over the conversation at any moment if necessary. This development builds upon earlier experiments like Google Duplex and follows similar capabilities introduced by Meta's AI agents. Google states that it is rolling out the feature cautiously due to the nuanced nature of real-world conversations.
