Google has released Nano Banana 2.1, a new image generation and editing model that replaces the previous version from February 2026. This update significantly reduces costs by roughly half compared to its predecessor, with 1K images priced at 3.36 cents and 4K images at 7.56 cents. The model leverages Gemini 3.6 Flash technology to improve visual quality, text rendering, and character consistency across multiple turns. It supports resolutions up to 4K and can process up to 14 reference images simultaneously while maintaining object and character coherence. Although benchmarks show strong performance, Google notes that Nano Banana Pro remains superior for producing highly realistic and natural-looking images. The new model is currently rolling out across various Google services, including the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search, and Google Ads. Google plans to shut down the older gemini-3.1-flash-image model on October 29, 2026.
