Google tests letting Gemini call businesses for you
techcrunch ·
Google is testing a new feature called "Call for Me" that allows its Gemini AI to make phone calls to businesses on behalf of users. This capability is initially available to Pixel 11 owners in the United States who subscribe to Gemini and use the beta version of Google’s Phone app. The AI can share approved personal information, navigate automated menus, wait on hold, and handle complex tasks such as checking product stock or making reservations. Users can monitor the progress of these calls in real-time through live transcripts and retain the ability to take over the conversation at any moment. This launch expands upon previous experiments like "Ask for Me" and "Hold for Me," which focused more on inquiries and waiting rather than full conversational handling. Google notes that it is starting with a small-scale rollout because real-world conversations are nuanced and require careful refinement before broader deployment.
