Grok releases the first seven minutes of its AI-generated ‘Odyssey’
techcrunch ·
Three months after Elon Musk announced plans for a historically accurate AI-generated film of 'The Odyssey,' Grok has released the first seven minutes, titled 'Episode 1.' The project was created in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. This release stands in stark contrast to Christopher Nolan’s recent practical filmmaking version of the same epic, which has been a massive box office success. While the AI footage avoids being visually ugly and features realistic-looking actors, it lacks artistic inspiration and human interest. The narrator uses a generic British accent, and the characters appear to adhere to specific aesthetic preferences associated with Musk. Critics note that the dialogue is stilted and the narrative momentum is absent, making the viewing experience tedious compared to traditional cinema. Consequently, there is skepticism regarding whether audiences would want to see more than this initial short segment.
