Guild Introduces Software Factory, an Autonomous AI System for Engineering Work
aiinsider ·
Guild has unveiled Software Factory, an autonomous AI system composed of specialized agents that can find, plan, implement, review, and maintain engineering work. The system was initially developed for internal use and now autonomously writes 34% of merged pull requests and originates 56% of all code fixes at Guild. Rather than a single autonomous agent, Software Factory operates as a pipeline with dispatcher, planner, implementer, and reviewer agents, alongside maintenance agents for tasks like resolving conflicts and triaging test failures. Guild reports that 91% of merged Factory pull requests require no additional engineer commits, with an average model cost of about $12 per merged PR. The system does not merge its own code, preserving human oversight over final outcomes. Guild views this as a shift from coding assistance to broader autonomous engineering systems and plans to adapt the architecture to different codebases with team-specific coding standards.
