Hearing tech startup Legato launches its AI hearing glasses
techcrunch ·
Hearing technology startup Legato has officially launched its flagship AI-powered hearing glasses, known as Legato Frames. Priced starting at $999, these devices are designed for adults with up to moderate hearing loss and aim to reduce the stigma and cost associated with traditional hearing aids. Unlike conventional aids that use directional microphones, Legato's system utilizes on-device AI to distinguish voices from background noise while amplifying speech. The open-ear design features a dual-speaker system that directs sound to the wearer and cancels escaping sound by 99% within inches of the ear. Weighing only 34 grams, the glasses offer 10-12 hours of battery life and support prescription lenses and Bluetooth streaming. The launch follows a $12 million funding round secured shortly after the company emerged from stealth mode in September 2026. Founders Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine bring extensive experience from Bose and EssilorLuxottica to this intersection of smart eyewear and hearing care. Customers can purchase the frames directly from the website or through select U.S. eye care providers eligible for vision insurance coverage.
