Hitachi and Fanuc Partner to Commercialize Physical AI for Manufacturing
aiinsider ·
Hitachi and Fanuc have established a strategic partnership to develop and commercialize physical AI systems specifically for the manufacturing sector. The collaboration combines Hitachi's physical AI models, including HMAX Industry technology, with Fanuc’s industrial robots, control systems, and robotics AI capabilities. Initial testing will take place at Hitachi factories in Japan’s Ibaraki region, where these sites will serve as "Customer Zero" to learn from real production data. Early applications focus on automating tasks that currently require skilled labor, such as parts picking and production changeovers. The companies aim to create systems capable of adapting to changing conditions rather than relying solely on imitation learning or digital twins. Commercial deployment is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2027, leveraging both firms' global customer bases. Future expansion plans include applying this technology across industries like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, automotive, logistics, food, shipbuilding, and agriculture.
