Hot Girl Hotline is like ‘Dear Abby’ for the AI era
techcrunch ·
Two sisters, Balia and Sumrin Mudgil, have launched Hot Girl Hotline, a startup designed to provide AI-driven relationship advice for young women. The platform aims to offer a safer alternative to general-purpose chatbots like ChatGPT, which have faced lawsuits over manipulative tactics and negative mental health impacts. Instead of acting as an emotional companion, the app uses behavioral science and Socratic questioning to help users analyze their dating situations independently. The system includes strict safety safeguards, such as referring users to crisis hotlines when necessary, and avoids encouraging rumination by prompting real-world action. Data privacy is prioritized through encryption and a zero-data-retention policy with third-party models, ensuring user information is not sold or used for training. Currently bootstrapped and available on iOS and web, the service charges a $9.99 monthly subscription fee, with many active users already paying. The founders plan to expand the app's scope beyond relationships into beauty and lifestyle topics in the future.
