How Intuit built an agentic disaster recovery assistant with Amazon Bedrock
aws ·
Intuit built EWOK Agent, an agentic disaster recovery assistant powered by Amazon Bedrock, to address decision-making gaps in its existing EWOK failover system. EWOK standardizes failover execution across compute, databases, networking, caches, and asynchronous workloads, reducing recovery times from several hours to about 20 minutes for supported workloads. However, choosing the right recovery workflow and handling exceptions still depended on the tribal knowledge of experienced on-call engineers, such as during change-freeze windows. EWOK Agent lets engineers submit plain-language requests from Intuit's engineering portal or IDE, and it handles asset resolution, workflow selection, readiness checks, policy gates, execution IDs, and change records. The architecture is organized into consumer, agent, skill, and execution layers, with failover knowledge encoded as typed, versioned skills defined in Markdown files with YAML schemas and prompt bodies. Amazon Bedrock provides access to foundation models via a single API, along with guardrails and security protections, and the design keeps a clear boundary where the model decides what to do and the agent deterministically executes how.
