Huawei plans Q1 2027 launch of new AI chip as it takes on Nvidia
techcrunch ·
Huawei says it will launch its next-generation Ascend 960DT AI chip in the first quarter of 2027, moving the release forward from its previously planned third quarter of 2027 as it seeks to challenge Nvidia. The updated timeline was announced by acting chairman David Wang at the company’s Huawei Connect conference. Huawei is also developing its Peerium Computing Architecture, which uses UnifiedBus to connect processors with memory, storage, and networking hardware in large AI systems for training and inference. Its Atlas 950 SuperCluster can reportedly connect up to 256,000 accelerator cards. Analyst Rui Ma questioned the scale of the newly discussed systems, noting that Huawei had previously described an Atlas 960 SuperPoD with 15,488 chips, while the latest announcement referred to 4,096 chips. Huawei continues pursuing domestic semiconductor development despite U.S. restrictions, while the announcement comes ahead of a planned meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
