I tried Apple’s Siri Recaps. They’re surprisingly useful — and a little unsettling
techcrunch ·
Apple has introduced new Audio Intelligence features in the iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3 developer betas, including Siri Recaps for Apple Watch Series 12 users. These AI tools allow devices to detect important sounds, identify songs, and summarize daily conversations using on-device processing to protect privacy. While sound detection aims to assist deaf users and song identification is a familiar function, Live Rewind and Siri Recaps raise privacy concerns by normalizing constant audio monitoring. A TechCrunch reviewer found Siri Recaps surprisingly useful for capturing verbal details during car repairs that were too fast to write down manually. However, the feature also recorded non-essential home conversations, such as TV plans, which felt invasive and cluttered the notes with irrelevant information. The reviewer suggests improvements like separating distinct topics into different notes or sections and allowing easier deletion of specific bullet points. Additionally, they propose an option to automatically export saved recaps to the Notes app for better organization. Despite initial unease about the always-listening nature of the technology, the practical value of automated note-taking was acknowledged.
