ICYMI: What landed for AI builders in August 2026
aws ·
AWS recapped its August 2026 releases for AI builders, emphasizing updates to Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore, and the open-source Strands harness. Bedrock introduced million-token context windows and prompt caching for OpenAI GPT-5.6 models, along with Web Search and cross-Region inference for lower latency. New cost controls, such as IAM principal cost allocation and anomaly detection, help customers monitor third-party model spending. Security capabilities expanded with OpenAI's Daybreak Red and Blue models for defensive and authorized offensive cyber workflows. AgentCore added runtime instances lasting up to 14 days, temporal policies for behavioral control, rate limiting, payments, Web Search, enriched memory, and a governed Agent Registry. In regulated environments, Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 models became available in AWS GovCloud, with Nova Multimodal Embeddings also deployed there. Strands Robots now supports robot training and physical deployment through a unified workflow using mesh-based coordination and standards. Overall, the updates aim to help agents understand more, run longer, and operate safely across enterprise, regulated, and physical environments.
