Introducing Claude Haiku 5.5 on AWS
aws ·
AWS has announced the availability of Claude Haiku 5.5 on Amazon Bedrock and the Claude Platform, positioning it as the fastest and most efficient model in the Claude 5.5 family. Designed for subagents and high-volume, cost-sensitive tasks, this new model costs approximately 75 percent less than its predecessor, Claude Haiku 4.5. The release introduces effort controls that allow users to tune the balance between cost and intelligence for individual tasks rather than applying a single setting to an entire workload. Haiku 5.5 excels at coding, tool use, computer use, and agentic tasks, making it suitable for rapid iterations, document classification, and quick knowledge retrieval. It is intended to pair with Claude Opus 5.5, where Opus handles complex reasoning and planning while Haiku executes well-defined tasks at scale. Users can access the model via the Amazon Bedrock console, programmatic APIs like Boto3, or the Anthropic SDK within AWS infrastructure. The service is currently available in specific US, EU, AU, JP, and Global regions, as well as in AWS GovCloud.
