Introducing Claude Sonnet 5.5 on AWS
aws ·
AWS has announced the availability of Claude Sonnet 5.5 on Amazon Bedrock and the Claude Platform, positioning it as a smarter and more efficient model for focused coding and knowledge work. This new iteration offers lower costs per task and faster speeds compared to its predecessors, making it ideal for continuous or scaled workloads such as alert response, SQL generation, and UI testing. The article highlights that Sonnet 5.5 excels at executing well-scoped tasks where the approach is already clear, producing polished documents and visuals with greater precision. For complex decisions requiring careful judgment, AWS recommends pairing Sonnet 5.5 with the recently released Opus 5.5 model, which handles debugging, security reviews, and long-form analysis. Users can access the model through the Amazon Bedrock console playground or programmatically via the Anthropic Messages API and AWS SDKs. Prerequisites for integration include an active AWS account, configured CLI, Python 3.10+, and specific IAM permissions for model invocation. Currently, Sonnet 5.5 is available globally through the CRIS inference profile on bedrock-runtime and in North America via the Claude Platform.
