Introducing cross-Region inference for OpenAI GPT-5.6 models on Amazon Bedrock

Amazon Bedrock has introduced cross-Region inference for OpenAI GPT-5.6 models, making them available in over 25 AWS Regions. Three model variants—Sol, Terra, and Luna—support this feature, each balancing capability and cost differently. Cross-Region inference is implemented through inference profiles that route requests from a source Region to destination Regions based on capacity, helping improve throughput and performance under load. Geographic profiles restrict processing to a defined set of Regions to meet data residency requirements, while global profiles route across all supported commercial Regions for maximum capacity. Users can access the models through the Amazon Bedrock console or programmatically via the OpenAI Responses API, OpenAI Chat Completions API, and Amazon Bedrock Converse API, including streaming options. The feature maintains the same security and compliance posture as direct calls, including IAM authentication, VPC endpoint support, CloudTrail logging, and zero-operator access.
