Introducing OlmoEarth embeddings: Custom embedding exports from OlmoEarth Studio for downstream analysis
huggingface ·
Allen AI has introduced custom embedding exports through OlmoEarth Studio, enabling researchers and developers to generate compact numerical representations of Earth observation data directly from their open-source foundation models. Users can tailor these computations by selecting specific geographic areas, temporal ranges up to twelve months, various encoder sizes, resolutions, and satellite imagery sources. The resulting outputs are delivered as lightweight Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF files containing quantized vector data that captures complex landscape characteristics without requiring manual labeling. These pre-trained representations support a variety of geospatial analyses, including similarity mapping, rapid land-cover classification with minimal training data, automated change detection, and unsupervised structural visualization. Because the system computes vectors on demand rather than accessing static archives, it effectively tracks seasonal environmental shifts and adapts to user-specific queries. While frozen embeddings provide a fast and resource-efficient starting point, the platform also offers supervised fine-tuning capabilities for applications demanding higher precision. Developers are advised to verify embedding accuracy for their particular scenarios, as results remain contingent upon the clarity and consistency of the underlying satellite imagery.
