Introducing the Anthropic Cyber Mission
anthropic ·
Anthropic has launched the Anthropic Cyber Mission, a long-term initiative aimed at securing critical systems through tools, research, and resources. The mission focuses on two primary areas: protecting critical infrastructure operational technology and hardening open-source software. To support infrastructure defenders, Anthropic introduced the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP), partnering with major firms like Accenture, CrowdStrike, and Rockwell Automation to apply frontier AI models to industrial security challenges. For the open-source community, the company launched OSS Scanner, a free service that provides automated security scans and vulnerability reports to enrolled projects. This effort builds upon lessons learned from Project Glasswing, which previously uncovered numerous vulnerabilities in widely used code. Anthropic acknowledges that while AI can accelerate threat detection, verifying and fixing issues remains a complex human-centric task requiring careful coordination. The company aims to bridge the gap between rapid AI advancements and the slower pace of traditional cybersecurity remediation. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance resilience for essential services like power grids and water systems against increasingly sophisticated state-sponsored threats.
