Italy’s Generative Bionics Plans Physical AI Data Factory Network for Industrial Humanoids
aiinsider ·
Italian startup Generative Bionics has announced plans to establish a multi-site Physical AI Data Factory network designed to train industrial humanoid robots. The initiative begins with a 5,000-square-meter hub in Italy, expected to open by the fourth quarter of 2027, which aims to become Europe’s largest facility for this purpose. These facilities will generate real-world and simulated data through a real-to-sim-to-real training loop for the company's GENE.01 humanoid robot. AMD will serve as the infrastructure partner, providing Helios rack-scale systems to process physical and synthetic data while running parallel digital-twin simulations. The strategy addresses the unique challenge that robots require specific physical task data rather than just online information used for large language models. Data collected from vision, motion, force, and the robot's multimodal skin will be combined with simulations to test perception, control, and safety behaviors before deployment. Generative Bionics CEO Daniele Pucci emphasized that building this network in Europe ensures that data, models, and infrastructure remain under continental development and operation.
