Iwa Robotics Introduces Drone Fleet for Wildfire Detection and Suppression
aiinsider ·
Iwa Robotics, a Los Angeles-based company, has unveiled three autonomous drone platforms to assist fire departments with detecting, assessing, and suppressing wildfires in urban and wildland-interface areas. The fleet includes Hawk, designed for long-endurance reconnaissance; Canary, which provides sensing and fire diagnostics to help crews evaluate conditions and track threats; and Pelican, which performs aerial suppression by targeting hot spots and establishing fire lines through repeated water application. According to CEO Mirza Samnani, the system is centered on improving crew safety by offering in-field tools that diagnose threats and provide sensory data and personnel risk signals. The drones operate together under the company's Discovery and Resolution Fleet, allowing fire crews to manage them as a coordinated autonomous unit. Iwa plans to provide the drones through a fleet-as-a-service model, which includes aircraft, autonomy training, data services, maintenance, and insurance, eliminating the need for agencies to make upfront equipment purchases. The company is embarking on its second cross-country roadshow, with field demonstrations scheduled for fire and public-safety agencies across eight states.
