Japan’s O-ID Raises $1.2M in Pre-Seed Funding to Develop Modular Humanoid Robots for Factories
aiinsider ·
Tokyo-based startup O-ID has secured $1.2 million in pre-seed funding to advance its modular humanoid robots from prototype to production. The round was led by Tawani Ventures, Hustle Fund, and Techstars, supporting founders Stian Jakobsen and Simon Gormuzov who established the company in 2025. O-ID’s primary innovation lies in its tool-free modular design, which allows major components to be replaced on-site within five minutes to minimize operational downtime. Onboard sensors monitor wear and tear, enabling predictive maintenance before parts fail completely. The initial deployment strategy focuses on addressing Japan's severe labor shortage in automotive manufacturing and logistics sectors. Funding will specifically prepare the first units for factory floors in Japan, where the domestic supply chain is entirely based. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand into other industries and eventually enter the U.S. market while adhering to strict industrial safety standards.
