Japan’s Shimizu Invests in Noble Machines to Develop Humanoid Robots for Construction
aiinsider ·
Japanese construction giant Shimizu Corporation has invested in Silicon Valley startup Noble Machines to collaborate on developing humanoid robots for the construction industry. The partnership aims to combine Noble Machines' MOBY series hardware and AI software with Shimizu's extensive building information modeling data and site expertise. Initial applications for these robots will focus on material transport, site navigation, and security patrols to address labor shortages caused by an aging workforce. Virtual simulations using BIM/CIM data are scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, followed by physical tests at actual construction sites starting next spring. Shimizu views this technology as a strategic solution to maintain productivity while reducing reliance on workers for hazardous or physically demanding tasks. The financial terms of the investment were not disclosed in the report. This collaboration highlights the growing integration of physical AI into traditional heavy industries.
