Kawasaki Develops ‘Home LEO’ Social Robot Prototype to Support Older Adults at Home
aiinsider ·
Kawasaki Heavy Industries has developed Home LEO, a prototype quadruped social robot designed to assist older adults in maintaining independence at home. Utilizing physical AI, the robot can recognize its surroundings, make decisions, and perform tasks without constant human supervision. Its primary functions include providing companionship, monitoring for safety hazards like falls or fire risks, and assisting with daily activities. The system is also capable of learning individual user preferences over time to tailor its assistance accordingly. With user consent, Home LEO will share selected care information with medical institutions and nursing providers to better integrate home care with professional healthcare services. Kawasaki plans to conduct demonstration trials with Japanese government agencies and healthcare organizations before launching the product commercially in fiscal 2028. This development aims to address Japan's aging population and shortages of care workers by extending the time seniors can safely remain in their own homes.
