Kodiak AI, DTL Transport Sign Deal for 75 Driverless Trucks
aiinsider ·
Kodiak AI and DTL Transport have signed a binding agreement to deploy autonomous driving systems on 75 driverless trucks owned by the California-based freight carrier. Under this Driver-as-a-Service model, DTL will pay a per-mile fee for the use of Kodiak's technology, marking the first definitive interstate agreement of its kind with an independent trucking firm. The initial operations will focus on long-haul routes in the Sun Belt, specifically between Dallas and El Paso, and Dallas and Atlanta. This commercial deal follows a successful September pilot in California where Kodiak-equipped trucks hauled perishable goods autonomously. DTL intends to integrate these autonomous units with its existing workforce to increase freight capacity and bypass human driving-hour restrictions. Kodiak continues to expand its fleet, having already deployed systems on 35 trucks for Atlas Energy Solutions and planning services for IKEA later this year.
