Kodiak AI Names Dallas–Houston Corridor As First Long-Haul Driverless Launch Lane
aiinsider ·
Kodiak AI has announced plans to launch its first unsupervised long-haul driverless freight service on the Dallas–Houston Interstate 45 corridor by the end of 2026. The company initiated a dedicated driverless launch program in August, which has consistently completed end-to-end deliveries between Lancaster, Texas, and Houston without any human wheel interventions. These operations include navigating surface streets, marking a significant step in validating the company's safety case for highway autonomy. As of late August, Kodiak’s Autonomy Readiness Measure for the long-haul domain reached 93%, with the firm expecting to achieve 100% readiness before the year ends. This development builds upon over 3.5 million autonomous miles logged on this specific freight lane since 2019. Additionally, Kodiak has nearly two years of experience operating driverless trucks for paying customer Atlas Energy Solutions in the Permian Basin. Founder and CEO Don Burnette confirmed that the final launch initiative is proceeding as anticipated, paving the way for commercial highway service.
