Licensing costs driving 90 percent of VMware users to explore options: Survey
ars ·
A recent survey by Rimini Street reveals that 90 percent of VMware users are exploring alternatives primarily due to significantly higher licensing costs following Broadcom's acquisition. Additionally, 54 percent of respondents cited the elimination of support for perpetual license holders as a major factor in their decision-making process. While cost savings remain a top priority for 73 percent of participants, organizations face significant barriers to migration, including operational complexity and multi-vendor management challenges. Consequently, 60 percent of surveyed companies are considering a multi-hypervisor strategy to reduce reliance on a single vendor and enhance flexibility. Many enterprises are also favoring hybrid IT environments that combine hypervisors and containers to balance operational needs with financial goals. Notably, nearly half of the respondents do not plan to migrate their assets to VMware’s Cloud Foundation platform. Industry analysts predict that interest in alternative distributed hybrid infrastructure will grow substantially by 2029, reflecting a broader trend toward diversification. This shift aims to maintain continuity for mission-critical systems while modernizing infrastructure at a pace suited to specific business requirements.
