Maven Robotics wants to steal your robot deployment deal
techcrunch ·
Maven Robotics has officially emerged from stealth, announcing a $100 million Series A funding round led by investors including RoboStrategy and LocalGlobe. The startup plans to manufacture 250 units of its third-generation robots while simultaneously beginning design work on a fourth-generation platform. Founded by former Apple special projects team member Hamza Derbas and his brother Khalid, the company focuses on industrial automation rather than general AI model development. Their wheeled robots are specifically designed for mixed palletizing tasks in distribution centers, capable of lifting 30 kilograms and moving at speeds up to 10 miles per hour. Maven differentiates itself by prioritizing operational reliability and return on investment over complex architectures, explicitly criticizing competitors like Agility Robotics for using less efficient bipedal designs. The company has already secured active deployments with major consumer goods partners, achieving high uptime rates across multiple sites. By leveraging data pipelines refined through automotive and self-driving car engineering backgrounds, Maven aims to iteratively expand its capabilities beyond palletization toward broader material handling and fabrication tasks.
