Meta’s AI agent has been blocked from using Amazon.com
techcrunch ·
Meta’s AI assistant, Muse, has been blocked from accessing Amazon.com after users encountered an error message stating that unauthorized AI agents violate the platform's Conditions of Use. This restriction prevents customers from purchasing goods on Amazon through Meta's AI interface. The block highlights a strategic divergence between two tech giants, as Amazon prioritizes its own foundation models and inference platforms over third-party integrations. Additionally, Amazon may be hesitant to engage in agentic commerce due to the operational risks associated with potential AI errors, such as incorrect orders or hallucinations. Although Meta claims Muse has a relatively low hallucination rate, it is not yet perfect, meaning Amazon would bear the burden of resolving customer and vendor disputes caused by mistakes. Consequently, Amazon might prefer to wait for more mature AI release cycles before fully embracing agent-driven shopping solutions.
