Meta's new AI agent, Muse, has attracted over 500,000 users in its first week since launching on September 8, achieving the number one spot on Apple's App Store. The application, available in the US via a standalone app and WhatsApp, is designed to automate routine tasks such as research, booking appointments, and expense tracking. Meta has openly admitted that Muse is heavily inspired by the open-source project OpenClaw, with internal documents showing nearly identical file names and behavior rules. Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, stated that while the team built Muse from scratch, they were deeply influenced by OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger. Despite these strong initial metrics, it remains uncertain whether this early interest will translate into long-term user retention. The primary challenge for Muse involves convincing users to grant AI agents access to their private accounts and sensitive personal data. Meanwhile, competitors like OpenAI are reportedly considering building their own personal AI assistants in response to Muse's rapid adoption.
