Microsoft gives Copilot another makeover, adding an Autopilot agent and usage-based billing
decoder ·
Microsoft has updated its Copilot platform by introducing a new proactive agent called Autopilot, which is built on OpenClaw technology. This agent operates as an always-on assistant with dedicated cloud resources to handle tasks such as monitoring Teams channels and coordinating supplier evaluations without human intervention. The Copilot application interface has been reorganized into three distinct sections: Home for collaboration, Code for natural language app building, and Autopilot for autonomous agents. In addition to these features, Microsoft is transitioning from flat-rate pricing to usage-based billing for Autopilot, Code, and Cowork services. This shift allows IT administrators to control model selection and manage costs using new FinOps tools while tapping into frontier models like OpenAI's Astra. While the enterprise rollout begins with private previews in late September, CEO Satya Nadella plans to eventually extend Autopilot to consumers. The update aims to streamline AI integration across Office applications and reduce reliance on subsidized flat-rate plans.
