Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, an AI-ready PC powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip, during its Tech Week event in San Francisco. The device is designed to run AI agents locally and for free, leveraging unified memory and enhanced cooling systems to handle on-device workloads efficiently. Pricing for the laptop starts at $2,600 for base models and goes up to $5,900 for high-spec configurations. Alongside the consumer laptop, Microsoft introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a $6,000 workstation aimed at developers that includes tools like VS Code and GitHub Copilot CLI. Both devices feature a revamped Windows 11 with Execution Containers, which help sandbox AI agents and improve orchestration. CEO Satya Nadella emphasized that this technology enables any company to build agents using multiple models and context layers. To encourage adoption among developers, Microsoft is offering trade-in incentives of up to $1,000 for MacBook Pro users. Competitor Dell also announced its own RTX Spark-powered XPS 16 Creator Edition, available for preorder at $3,800.
