Missed a lecture? This AI agent at Bar-Ilan University helps students catch up
microsoft ·
Bar-Ilan University has piloted an AI agent on its Moodle platform to help students catch up on missed lectures and enhance their study routines. Developed by KPMG and OpenApp using Microsoft Copilot Studio, the tool is grounded exclusively in course materials uploaded by teaching staff, including recorded lectures and transcripts. The pilot covered 71 courses and approximately 2,400 students, with plans to expand to 100 more courses in the upcoming academic year. Student Yarden Shay reports that the agent reduces her daily study time from five hours to three by providing organized notes and self-testing features. Lecturer Eliyahu Biton utilizes the AI as a teaching assistant, noting that it allows him to focus on mentoring rather than routine information delivery. He observed that students feel less anxious about exams and achieved higher average scores after using the bot to generate practice questions. Both students and faculty emphasize that the AI serves as a supportive add-on to human instruction rather than a replacement for teachers.
