Mitsubishi Electric Develops Physical AI System Linking Humanoid Robots With CNC Machines
aiinsider ·
Mitsubishi Electric has developed the industry's first machining system that utilizes physical AI to coordinate humanoid robots with CNC machine tools. This innovative setup allows humanoids to perform tasks traditionally handled by human operators, including setup, cleaning, inspection, and handling finished products. The system integrates an AI machining task planner, a physical AI-enabled CNC machine, and a general-purpose humanoid robot to streamline operations. Operators can assign work using natural language instructions, which the planner translates into specific tasks for the machines and robots. Mitsubishi Electric aims to reduce labor shortages and minimize the complex integration typically required for individual robots in manufacturing environments. The technology supports unmanned machining operations and contributes to the goal of fully autonomous factories. A demonstration of this system is scheduled to take place at JIMTOF 2026 in Tokyo starting on October 26.
