"Muse Gadgets" turns AI hardware into an open-source DIY project
decoder ·
Meta has launched Muse Gadgets, an open-source initiative that empowers hobbyists to construct their own AI hardware. The project provides Apache 2.0 licensed firmware for ESP32 boards and a Linux SDK, enabling users to connect custom devices to Meta's AI agent, Muse. Alongside this developer-focused effort, Meta is releasing its proprietary device, the Muse Home Link, which connects the AI agent to smart home ecosystems via USB-C. Approximately 5,000 units of the Home Link have been manufactured and will be distributed free to subscribers while supplies last. This dual strategy allows Meta to gather insights into preferred hardware form factors from community creations, as the industry has not yet standardized AI device designs. The move positions Meta alongside competitors like Apple and OpenAI, who are also developing dedicated hardware. Meanwhile, Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses remain a notable success in the current AI gadget market.
