NEC's corporate venture capital fund, through the NEC Orchestrating Future Fund (NOFF), has invested an undisclosed amount in U.S.-based robotics startup Dexmate. Founded in 2024 by AI robotics researchers, Dexmate develops the Vega wheeled humanoid robot and an integrated physical AI development platform. Vega runs AI models onboard using an Nvidia Jetson Thor with 128 GB of memory and about 2,070 AI TFLOPS of computing performance. Its 4.8 kWh battery provides approximately 20 hours of runtime, or more than 16 hours under full AI compute load. The robot features more than two meters of reach, arms that can each carry 15 lbs, a three-section folding torso, and hardware-synchronized sensors for aligned training data. NEC plans to explore physical AI applications with Dexmate across multiple industries, combining the startup's robotics technology with NEC's existing capabilities and industry experience. Dexmate's CEO said the partnership aims to lower barriers to robot development and deployment, while an NEC executive said the collaboration seeks to explore new value creation in physical AI and address customer and societal challenges.
